Why a Church?
Hey everyone!!!
Well this week went by soooo fast. But it was a pretty good week.
We had lots of visits with friends and members wanting to come back to church. Here are a few good ones:
Lillian: her husband is a member wanting to return and we were able to talk to him one Tuesday and then on Friday with them both. The first time with just him was super spiritual. He shared with us what he remembers from being strong in the gospel and some experiences he has had recently. It lead us to having a good chat about coming back to church and what it requires. I'll share something in my spiritual thought.
When we met with them both we were able to explain part of the plan of salvation and the importance of our time here on earth. We mentioned baptism and asked if she wants to be baptized when she knows these things are true. She said yes! So we have lots of work with her.
Victor: I'm pretty sure I've talked about him before but we went with him and his family again. Talked about "daily restoration". How every day it's important to strengthen your faith and do the little things. This week him and his wife will accompany us to a lesson with Lillian and her husband Carlos.
We also had zone conference this week. That was really fun and so good to see president and Hermana Probst!!
I know many of you SKIP to the pictures but I want you to read my spiritual thought this week.
This week a question that many people have came to my mind, "Why a church? What's the purpose if Christ is who saves us?"
There are many answers to this question, but I will address just one.
While it is certainly true that Christ is our savior, and that because of him we will all live forever, an eternal family is not guaranteed. The celestial kingdom is not guaranteed. And while it is true that the majority of the churches help us become closer to Christ, not all have the full truth and not all help us have an eternal family.
On the earth, the Savior established His church to be able to have order and to be able to organize His authority and power, the Priesthood. And with this, perform sacred ordinances like baptism.
And that is the simple answer to why we need a church: to be able to organize the priesthood and ordinances. But what does the priesthood do? What do ordinances do? With the priesthood we are able to perfom sacred ordinances and make covenants with God to be able to have peace and joy in this life, and an eternal family in the life to come in God's presence.
Now, the men that hold the priesthood are not perfect, but the priesthood is. The people that help in the performing of sacred ordinances are not perfect, but the ordinances are. The people that make covenants are not perfect, but the covenant maker is. The people in the church are not perfect, but the church is.
Friends and family I know that this is the only true church on the earth today and that only through the covenants that we make can we return to live with God and our families forever! And what a great blessing it is to know this.
I love you all!!!!
If you didn't read my spiritual thought, go back and read it:))
